ASeTTS training programs are designed to equip workers with the awareness, knowledge and skills that will enable them to provide effective, culturally sensitive and quality services for people from refugee backgrounds, their families and communities. |

CALENDAR WORKSHOPS Semester two 2010 calendar Upcoming Workshops, July- August 2010 Cross-Cultural Counselling Approaches to Working with Refugee Survivors of Torture and Trauma (flyer) This workshop will provide you with additional knowledge and skills for cross-cultural counselling practice when working with survivors of torture and trauma and culturally and linguistically diverse communities. You will gain knowledge of the effects of trauma and skills and approaches to working with traumatised clients Date: 28 July, Time: 9.30 am – 4.30 pm Approaches for Working with Refugee Youth (flyer) Explore the impacts of trauma on children and adolescents and be better equipped to work with them using some current ‘best practice’ and ‘strengths based’ models that have international recognition. Date: 4 August, Time: 9.30 am – 4.30 pm Orientation to The Refugee Experience (flyer) Enhance your knowledge of ‘the refugee experience’ and the framework used by ASeTTS to develop an understanding of the psychosocial impact of torture and trauma. Date: 12 August, Time: 9.30 am – 12.30 pm Good Food for New Arrivals (flyer) What are the food and nutrition issues for newly arrived refugees? This workshop explores these and ways to address them.. Date: 24 August, Time: 9.30 am – 12.30 pm Jungle Tracks (flyer) Jungle Tracks uses stories to promote hope and empowerment and aims to assist refugee children through the recovery process. This workshop is designed for counsellors, teachers and others who work with children and who are interested in applying the storytelling approach in their work with child trauma survivors.
